Innovative Eco-friendly Materials: Zero-VOC Paint

To sustain healthy lives, we need to maintain healthy indoor and outdoor environments. Eco-friendly design, or “green building,” is an opportunity to use our resources efficiently while creating healthier communities.  Innovations in the green building movement and paint technology have been instrumental in providing builders with safer painting alternatives. Did you know Alliance is a leader in the multifamily industry when it comes to sustainable paint purchasing?  As part of our Focus Green program, we source high-quality, competitively priced zero-VOC paints through Sherwin-Williams. These paints contain zero-VOC (volatile organic compounds) colorants and are free of ethylene glycol.

Why are zero-VOC paints important?  Typical household paint contains nearly 10,000 chemicals; 300 known toxins and 150 that have been linked to cancer.  VOCs are highly evaporative and can contribute to air pollution and human health issues, including respiratory illnesses, headaches and nausea.

New environmental regulations and consumer demand have led to the development of low-VOC and zero-VOC paints and finishes. These new paints are durable, cost-effective and less harmful to human and environmental health.

You can support our sustainability efforts by using products from nationally-preferred vendors, like Sherwin-Williams.  To find a list of approved vendors, refer to the Vendor Marketplace under the Focus Green tab on LearnatAlliance.com.
